Sugar-Free January

Hello people of the internet world!

I hope your day is just as lovely as you! (Sorry, super cheesy, but I couldn't help myself. Remember, I'm a strong believer in building people up and giving them confidence. And that includes all of you!)

So this past month I decided that I was going to try to not eat sweets for an entire month. (Now, out of the list of things you should know about me (I have an unhealthy love of Pinterest, I adore reading and become too emotionally attached, I'm an introvert/extrovert, etc.), I have a HUGE sweet-tooth. It's bad.) I mean, I'd have some sweet stuff (French Toast with syrup at breakfast or oatmeal with brown sugar), but I avoided it for the most part.

(Okay, not gonna lie, there were a couple times that I cracked and I'd eat something sweet. (There's this incredible pumpkin bread that is one of my favorite things ever and it was just mocking me when I would walk past it, so I ate a piece one day and it was delightful. (So maybe it's not that incredible, but I love basically everything pumpkin and it's pretty dang good.)) But I was usually pretty good. Normally after really bad/stressful days, I usually eat my feelings (wow, that's really pathetic when you put it in writing...), but I had to find some other way to deal with bad days, so I'd drink water or something like that. It actually worked, too.)

When I would eat something sweet, I'd end up feeling really gross. Like, it was a weird sugar headache thing or whatever. But it was weird. And as the month went on, I craved sugar less and less...(Until I'd go on Pinterest and see all the dessert recipes and want one of the super yummy bars.) And now sweet things are really un-appetizing. (The ironic thing is that as I'm writing this, I'm making bars for some friends. However, I only had a bite or two of cookie dough and I turned away from it because I felt yucky.)

It's honestly really weird because I have a HUGE sweet tooth and can literally eat a bunch of desserts and not be fazed, but now thinking about eating a slice of chocolate cake makes me scrunch my nose up. (I read a blog a few months ago about a family who gave up sugar for a full year and I thought, Wow, that's crazy. I could never do that. But BOOM! I did it! (Okay, I did it for a month. But still!)

So that's my January. It's pretty dang exciting. I'm thinking of extending it longer than a month, too. You guys should try it. The first, like, 10 days SUCK because you really want something sweet (a hot chocolate or you go on Pinterest and see all the desserts you could make),  but then it gets better and you stop craving it.

Moral of the story: give up all sugar (or most of it), for 30 days. See what happens. Drink water and eat healthy foods. Trust me. You'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

Love,

Katie
